Basanti Devi is a Mysore based linguist. She worked in All India Institute of Speech and Hearing, Mysore. After retirement she has been working as a freelancer. She has worked as visiting professor in several speech and hearing institutes in South India. She has also taught English grammar and phonetics in a few local colleges in Mysore including Regional Institute of Education(NCERT). She teaches linguistics and phonetics to BASLP students and Clinical linguistics to MASLP students
She is also a columnist. She has regularly contributed to several Assamese newspapers and magazines
Her full length articles have appeared in Assamese as well as English journals. There are many articles to her credit whcih are yet to be published.Her book ‘Atha Ardhangini Sangbad’is a collection of essays in Assamese on various issues pertaining to women.She is also a short story writer.
She was born and brought up in Jorhat, Assam. She graduated from Dibrugarh university with honours in English and did masters in English from University of Gauhati. Then she did masters in Linguistics from University of Delhi. The University of Mysore awarded her doctorate degree in Linguistics on the topic ‘A Contrastive Study of Assamese and Kannada’.
Her interests include sociolinguistics, language and gender, psycholinguistics, pragmatics, gender studies, psychology, health and wellness.
